The term is usually referred to as a group of private, internationally-minded schools in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, but not itself a school, i.e., "Jeddah Private International Schools". These are usually schools which serve a mixed expatriate, local student body between Kindergarten to Grade 12. Most of these schools follow internationally known curriculums and the American Curriculum is a popular one, usually supplemented by a combined Arabic-English program that instils Islamic values and moral uprightness. Others also do provide the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme or British systems such as IGCSE offering different routes to further education.

Such international schools are usually modern and state of art with facilities that facilitate a holistic learning experience. The typical facilities available are well equipped science laboratories, computer labs, large libraries and arts/music specific rooms. Sporting facilities are usually strong with air-conditioned basketball courts, swimming pools, green pitches and fully equipped gymnasiums. Most of the campuses are constructed to meet international standards that include security systems, air conditioning and technologically advanced classrooms that have interactive white boards to create an ideal learning environment.

Reputable private international schools in Jeddah are noted to have accreditation as one of their highlights with most having accreditation with international organizations like Cognia (formerly AdvancED), Council of International Schools (CIS), and New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). The accreditations give credence to their interest in global standards of education. Although the tuition fee differs greatly by the school and grade, it is on average of SAR 20,000 in early years to more than SAR 100,000 in senior grades as this is the investment in a quality international education.
